Zora Neale Hurston is indeed a literary giant. Writer, social anthropologist, folklorist, and documentary filmmaker, Hurston’s artistic prowess is undeniable. She remains one of the most noteworthy writers of the 20th century using her gift of keen observation to tell the stories of Black folks and doing so in a way that most did not do at the time, focusing primarily on the nuanced, lived experiences of Black women. Writing in such a way, she was no stranger to critique, but she possessed a spirit that was committed to forging her own path and the bravery to not stray from it no matter what came her way. Hurston’s work remains salient, and the indelible truths that her work holds urge us to forge ahead with the knowledge of who we are as a people, and for this, we pay homage to her in our Soul Viddles apparel line.
